Curtain Poles & Blinds Fitting in Ayr, Ayrshire

John at JM All Trades fits curtain poles, tracks and all blind types across Ayr and KA7/KA8. Wall type assessed before any fixings go in — particularly important in Ayr’s older solid-walled properties where standard wall plugs won’t hold a heavy pole and fabric load.

What We Cover

Curtain poles and blinds fitting across Ayr

Period properties in Ayr often have larger windows and heavier curtains — the combined weight of a full-length curtain pole, rings and lined fabric can be 20kg or more. A fixing rated for a photo frame won’t hold that over time. John specifies the fixing for the actual load and wall type, so the pole stays up properly rather than pulling out in six months.

What’s Included

  • Wall type checked before any fixings go in
  • Correct fixings for wall type and pole or track weight
  • Curtain poles, tracks and bay window tracks all fitted
  • Roller blinds, Roman blinds, Venetian and vertical blinds
  • Perfectly level and secure on completion
  • Old fittings removed and walls made good before new install
  • Packaging and waste removed on completion

What to Expect

  • KA7 and KA8 covered
  • Fixings rated for actual curtain weight — not underspecified
  • Solid sandstone walls — correct masonry fixings used throughout
  • Bay window tracks and corded tracks fitted
  • Multiple rooms done in one visit

In Ayr’s Victorian terraces with tall sash windows, curtain poles need masonry fixings into the sandstone above the window — not into the plaster over it. John checks what’s there before drilling and uses fixings appropriate for the actual load. A pole that drops because the fixings were too small makes a mess of the wall and needs to be done again properly. John does it right the first time.

FAQ

Common questions about curtain poles and blinds in Ayr

In solid sandstone, John uses masonry fixings drilled to the correct depth for the load. For light poles with lightweight curtains, a standard masonry plug and screw is sufficient. For heavier poles — particularly large metal poles with lined full-length curtains — a heavier duty anchor like a wall bolt or resin anchor may be needed, drilled deeper into the stone. The key is not to anchor into the plaster over the stone (which is what causes poles to pull out), but to get through the plaster and into the masonry itself. John checks the plaster depth and drills accordingly before any bracket goes up.

Yes — bay window curtain tracks are a common job in Ayr’s Victorian terraces. John fits flexible or bent corded tracks that follow the bay angle, wall-mounted rather than ceiling-mounted if that’s the preference. The challenge in a bay is getting the track level along the full run when the walls are at angles — John sets a laser level reference line across the bay and mounts the brackets to that, so the track is consistent across the full width. Old bay tracks that have sagged in the middle due to plasterboard-only fixings are also a common repair job John sorts as part of a refitting visit.

Either works. John is happy to fit poles, tracks and blinds that you’ve already purchased — this is the most common arrangement. If you’d like John to source and supply, he can advise on appropriate products for your window sizes, wall types and aesthetic, and supply them as part of the job. The quote will make clear what’s included. For custom-sized blinds — made to measure for a specific window — John can arrange supply through his trade suppliers if you’d rather not manage that separately.
