The Scary Jobs: the Small Repairs Haunting Your House

Every house has them. They are not dangerous. They have just been on the list so long that they feel like part of the building. With Halloween coming, it seems the right week to name them.

The usual suspects

• The door that sticks, then groans, then needs a shoulder to close it
• The crack in the plaster that looks a little longer every time you pass
• The shelf that never went up and still lives in its box
• The cracked tile you have stopped noticing
• The tap that drips all night
• The draught that creeps in under the door

None of them is too small

A lot of tradespeople will not come out for small repair jobs. John will. Single jobs are welcome, and he prices them fairly, without a high minimum charge just to cover a short visit. Sticking doors are planed, re-hung or rehinged. Cracks are filled and skimmed smooth, ready for paint. Shelves go up straight, level and strong.

Lay them all to rest in one visit

Most homeowners find they have three to five small jobs that have been building up. Write down everything before you get in touch, even the things you are not sure are worth calling about, and share the list so John can plan the right amount of time. He is happy to work through a full list in a single visit, and you get a clear price before any work starts.
