Darker Nights, More Time on the Couch: Get the TV on the Wall
The nights are darker now and the living room gets a lot more use. If the TV is still sitting on a unit in the corner with the wires trailing behind it, this is a good time to get it up on the wall and out of the way.
It looks simple. The fixings are the hard part
A 65-inch screen on the wrong fixings is a serious risk. John identifies the wall type before any drilling starts and picks the fixings to suit: masonry rawlplugs for solid walls, cavity anchors or noggin fixings for plasterboard. He checks the bracket is solid before the TV goes on.
What you can ask for
- Fixed, tilt and full-motion brackets, for all screen sizes
- Mounting on a chimney breast or above a fireplace
- Cables in trunking along the wall, or run inside the wall
- A soundbar mounted beneath or above the screen
- An old TV unit or bracket removed and the wall made good first
Above the fireplace
John mounts TVs above fireplaces regularly. A tilt or full-motion bracket works best above eye level. The screen is set level and to your preferred viewing angle, and the wires are tidied. Most TV mounting jobs are done within an hour or two, leaving no mess.
